On 1st October 2020, Professor Shinji Tokonami of the Institute of Radiation Emergency Medicine has received the Industrial Standardization Award 2020 from Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Professor Shinji Tokonami was recommended by Hirosaki University as a person who was involved in standardization activities and conformity assessment activities and had outstanding achievements in those activities. As a result of strict selection, he deserved the METI Award.
The award ceremony was held at Toshi Center Hotel Tokyo on 1st October 2020.

He has been working for the International Organization for Standardization (IEC) TC45 (Nuclear instrumentation) SC45B (Radiation protection instrumentation) WG10 (Radon and Radon Decay Products Measuring Instruments), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) TC85 (Nuclear Energy) SC2 (Radiological Protection) WG17 (Radioactivity Measurements) and ISO TC147 (Water Quality) SC3 (Radioactivity Measurements). his many academic activities are highly evaluated overseas, and he is a leader to set up several international standards based on his international network. Especially, his experience in the 2011 Fukushima nuclear accident is absorbed into the related international standards and it is internationally and highly evaluated.
