In radiation emergency medicine, estimating a patient’s radiation dose (dose assessment) is critical for developing treatment plans. While various dose assessment methods have been developed, one key approach is biological dosimetry, which analyzes biological responses in the body caused by radiation exposure. Although the number of experts in biological dosimetry in Japan remains limited, international activities are centered around the International Association of Biological and EPR Radiation Dosimetry (IABERD).
IABERD organizes the international conference “EPRBioDose” every two years. In 2024, “EPRBioDose2024” was held at Hirosaki University, chaired by Professor Tomisato Miura. From August 31 to September 3, 2026, “EPRBioDose2026” took place in Ottawa, Canada, chaired by Dr. Ruth Wilkins of Health Canada, featuring numerous research presentations and activity reports on biological dosimetry.
During the IABERD General Assembly, an election was held for the next Vice President, and Professor Miura was elected to the position. His term will be for two years, running until “EPRBioDose2028,” which is scheduled to be held in Türkiye.
