The Institute of Emergency Medicine sent Associate Professor Chutima Krandrod and Assistant Professor Donovan Anderson to attend the Australian Radiation Protection Society (ARPS) meeting, held from October 19 to 23, to expand their professional networks. Dr. Krandrod presented her research on “Determining the Radon Diffusion Coefficient in a Waterproof Material,” while Dr. Anderson gave a presentation titled “Radiocesium Accumulation in Wild Animals from Fukushima and the Radiation Doses to Human Consumers.” Dr. Anderson was awarded the People’s Choice Award for the best presentation.
Following the ARPS conference, Asian and Oceanic Radon Association (AORA) and ARPS collaborated to host the second Radon Symposium. Held on October 24th as a hybrid event, the symposium attracted over 50 in-person attendees and nearly 70 online participants. The event featured presentations from experts representing more than 10 countries, including notable talks from Dr. Chris Clement (President of IRPA), Dr. Laura Urso (Regulatory Standards Specialist at IAEA), and Dr. Olga German (Deputy Scientific Secretary of ICRP). Dr. Per Nilsson, President of the European Radon Association, also delivered a presentation on radon-related activities in Europe.
The AORA website, along with details on how to become a member, will be announced soon. Upcoming activities include an international intercomparison of radon instruments in India (further details to be shared later) and the third Radon Symposium, which will be held in Bali, Indonesia in 2025.
