The 3rd International Symposium on the Sources, Effects, and Risks of Ionizing Radiation (SERIR 2024) was held at ITEKES in Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia, from October 14–16, 2024. Professor Shinji Tokonami gave the keynote lecture, and Professor Tomisato Miura, Professor Masahiro Hosoda, Associate Professor, Kranrod Chutima, and five graduate students from the Graduate School of Health Sciences (the second-year doctoral student Haruka Kuwata, the first-year doctoral students, Saowarak Musikawan, Muhamad Aminudin, and Radhia Pradana, the first-year master’s student Ilsa Rosianna) presented their research results in Hirosaki University. 56 participants participated in the 42 oral presentations and 6 keynote speakers from 9 countries.

The purpose of this symposium on radiation and health is to bring together young scientists, researchers, and experts to discuss advancements in radiation science and its impact on human health and the environment.

In the symposium, experts from many countries shared their expertise in the keynote speaker sessions. Moreover, the symposium aims to nurture the next generation of leaders in radiation and health. Eka Djatnika Nugraha, a graduate of Hirosaki University was the symposium chair. Modibo Oumar Bobbo served as the session chair. He also holds a degree from Hirosaki University.

By participating in lively discussions, participants were able to exchange knowledge, foster creativity in radiation research, and strengthen the science of radiation protection, which they then adapted for their research and thesis.
